Using technology taken from kidney dialysis, Sawyer Water Filters use hollow fiber membranes. Our filters are made of tiny "U" shaped hoses that allow the water to enter into their middle core through tiny micro pores. The .1 micron pores on the biological filter are so small that no bacteria, protozoa, or cysts; E. Coli, Giardia, and Crypto-sporidium can get through. In fact, at 7 log (99.99999%) / 6 log (99.9999%) this is the highest level of filtration available today and yet it is has a very high flow rate due to the large amount of hoses.
